What weapons do you favor to fight with and why?
Mace and Sword. The mace and sword allow me to constantly change forms in the middle of combat. The mace is a destroyer; when you are struck by it, you know you were struck by it, a minor fear is introduced; when you are hit, you can feel it in your bones and teeth... it eats at you... that fear. Afraid to be struck, afraid to move in for your next strike. The sword is used for the quick work. Dodging, slashing, working, its way into your defenses; finding your weakness. Quick and flexible, it takes advantage of the fear the mace puts into you. While the mace takes advantage of the dazzling flash of the sword.
How long have you been re-enacting?
Four years.
What's your inspiration for doing this type of combat/re-enactment?
It started when I visited an art and history museum. I had seen the dress armor that a knight would wear and fantasized as a child what it would be like to be that knight. I also had the Kansas City Renaissance Faire literally in my back yard. Each year I would go there as a participant and/or guest. I had many chances to join other groups such as the SCA, but they just never seemed to fit my needs....and then I met Sir Kazimir, and he introduced me to this form of re-enactment. It all seemed to fit. The history of men doing this type of combat, the feeling of a weapon in your hand, the sparks flying, the hum of a good strike that vibrates down the length of your arm to the tip of your toes, the camaraderie of friends. It is hard to explain but the best way to find out is to try some armor on and enter the field of combat....
